Catherine Opie Talk & Opening @ LACMA

Coinciding with the sure-to-be-excellent Thomas Eakins show, local great Catherine Opie's Figure and Landscape, which deals with American Football opens on Sunday. Well, not an actual opening (you need to be someone to attend one of those and usually someone with cash) but it opens to the public that day.

Opie will also be giving a free talk, or rather a conversation with Eileen Myles about the project on Sunday at 2pm in the Bing theater, with tickets available one hour before.

Since 2007, Opie has surveyed America's high school football at sites including Ohio, Hawaii, and Los Angeles. She captures the diverse landscapes in which this symbol of America and masculinity is literally played out and, in her portraits of the young football players, the resilience and fragility of male youth.

Also, there's lot's do on Saturday.
